The students are the protagonists

Our students should participate in class as much as possible. Their are the protagonists of their learning process, that's why they should have an active role.
I always encourage everyone to do presentations about whatever they like or something related to our English class.
Two advanced girls from Year 6 have already done it: they made a Powerpoint presentation on their own at home and spoke about themselves in class.
Their attitude, English level and their computer skills are excellent. It is very impressive!

Starting to read in English

The written language should be introduced after the oral language, once they can read and write well in Catalan and Spanish.
As in Year 2 the boys and girls started to read words and short sentences, in Year 3 they can start to read longer sentences and simple story books.
Both teachers and parents should promote reading habits.
The material used must be adapted to the students' level.

They can also read a book in pairs. Advanced students help others with more difficulties! This is fantastic!!

Children love group work!

Working in groups has lots of benefits such as:
- It creates a relaxing and pleasant classroom atmosphere in class.
- Some boys and girls feel more comfortable when working with other children.
- There are more opportunities to practise the language. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
- It improves social interaction.
- Children develop their social skills.
- It's more fun!!

Pair work is used when we work on stories or small projects.

The students do love it!

Take a deep breath and CALM DOWN

I came across the following video which is about our emotions and the importance of breathing to take control of ourselves. We all should do it.

The video is in English with Spanish subtitles

It is related to the post I published some weeks ago about why children should relax.
Every day I try to help my students stop for a while and calm down after break time.

Welcome Rebecca!!

Last Tuesday most of the Primary groups met our new language assistant. Her name is Rebecca and she is from the UK.
Having a language assistant in class is very positive! We interact with native speakers than bring their culture into the classroom. The students have another linguistic model and have more possibilities to practise the oral language in the school.
She is going to be with us until May. We are so grateful! 😄👍🏼
